Living in Japan I spend a large part of almost every day out in the city. I spend more time on public transport, trains in particular, getting to work than I do actually working. Growing up in small town New Zealand where public transport was almost non-existent I am still fascinated by the whole scene, something that is probably so ordinary it`s virtually unnoticed by most of us.
I often leave my home to get to morning classes while it`s still dark and, especially in winter, the atmosphere in the trains can be heartbreaking as thousands upon thousands of exhausted, sleep deprived, depressed looking people make their daily commute to jobs they hate. We are all sharing the same journey.
Recently I`ve started taking photos, mostly black and white, on my phone of the interesting, the sad and the strange things I see on these bizarre daily journeys.
