Afghanistan
Afghanistan had taunted me to visit since my teenage years and in 2008 I took the plunge and spent three months in this troubled land, much to the horror of everyone who knew me, well, those that wanted to see me alive again anyway!
I found a country with heartbreaking stories of tragedy to tell, but I also found heartwarming hospitality, true friendship, an incredible culture set against a breathtaking landscape.
Tea with the Taliban (Winner of the 2011 Travel Book of the Year, Cathay Pacific Travel Media Awards) tells the story of my encounters, both expected and unlikely. It includes the account of my three week solo horse trek in the remote Wakhan Corridor, a place now on the list of horse treks run by Zavkhan Trekking!
